It's more than three years since an earthquake and tsunami crippled Japan's Fukushima nuclear plant and authorities are still battling to contain the fallout.

Millions of tonnes of radioactive waste are accumulating in the region, prompting a cleanup that is expected to take decades. At the same time, communities are slowly showing signs of recovery.

France 24's team from Down to Earth went to Fukushima to meet the people leading efforts to decontaminate the polluted environment.
