World No. 1 Jannik Sinner advanced to the round of 16 at the Italian Open in Rome with a straight-sets win over Jesper de Jong. It was his second consecutive victory following a three-month doping ban.

In football, Brazilian Football Confederation have confirmed the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as the new head coach of the national team, while Real Madrid is expected to replace him with Xabi Alonso. In Italy, Atalanta secured their place in the Champions League after a 2–1 victory against Roma.
