In an interview with FRANCE 24, former UN envoy and ex-Tunisian foreign minister Mongi Hamdi described the war in Sudan as a "real tragedy" unfolding amid the "shameless indifference" of the international community. He called for urgent pressure from the UN, the African Union, the EU and the US to force rival generals Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo to negotiate a peace deal, warning that the conflict could lead to a partition of Sudan and offer a safe haven to terrorist groups.

Hamdi also commented on the situation in Mali, warning that the country is at risk of "civil war". He accused the ruling junta of fuelling violence and of relying on "mercenaries" from Russia's Wagner Group.

He concluded: "I don't know how long Wagner can stay in Mali, but they are mercenaries and they will leave one day".
