To our distinguished guests, our indefatigable Director Dr. Liwayway G. Sanvictores, our ever-supportive Administrative Officer Dr. Reynaldo D. Faustino, our dynamic school administrators and faculty members, Members of the Board of Trustees, parents, donors, fellow graduates, ladies and gentlemen, good afternoon.

“The tassel’s worth the hassle!” Yes, we waited for three years, nine months and twenty-nine days for this day to come. Now, my fellow graduates, today is the day of our rejoicing. Congratulations!

However, Graduation Day does not only mean wearing caps and gowns and receiving diplomas and awards.

More than these, it means facing another set of challenges on our next journey. “The roots of education are bitter but the fruit is sweet.” Remembering all hardships from the past four years—coming to school and cramming for unfinished projects and homework, reviewing for exams, innumerable activities, surprise quizzes, sleepless nights, friendship troubles and everything that has been part of high school life—I just wanted to scream that finally, they are over!

My senior year had been a very tough year and there were lot of times that I really wanted to give up.

But it never happened because of the people who always showed their undying love and support. And truly, “as long as God is there, giving up is never a choice.”

To my parents and sisters—my ever loving and supportive family—thank you for the guidance, help and knowledge you imparted. You taught things I will never learn on my own. Thank you so much and I love you.

To my teachers and mentors, thank you for the training and for the lessons you taught me. I will never forget your patience in teaching us. What I am now is partly because of you. I will remember and keep the things I learned and use them as guide as my journey unfolds.

To my friends and classmates, thank you for all the times you’ve been there for me and accepting me as I am. Thank you so much for the support and how you never rejected me whenever I ask for help. I will always cherish the moments we shared—the laughter and the tears. I hope our class will always be full of love.

To my Alma Mater, Sumulong Memorial High School, thank you so much for helping me develop my talents and skills, be a more responsible, disciplined student and citizen of the country. I’m grateful I studied here. I was a completely different person when I first entered the gates of this school. I’ve been through a lot of ups and downs in my studies but every time I walk through the quadrangle, I smile as I read the words “In this school you are loved.”

Most of all, I want to thank God for all the blessings He bestowed upon me. He never failed to provide my needs. We can’t do things without Him, and I proved it to myself more than a hundred times. I believe that if God is with you, you can do things you don’t expect you could. My fellow graduates, let us not forget to give back to God the honor and glory in every success we encounter.

As we start another chapter of our lives, we should not be afraid to face new challenges. Let failure come but never let fear overcome you. Let’s be more patient, persevering, faithful and brave as we apply the lessons we’ve learned through the years.

“Success often rises out of the ashes of failure.” Sure, we will fail many times but don’t stop until we reach our goal. The process is hard but what is important is what we become. Keep in touch with God, the people who trust and believe in you and always be optimistic.

Above all, do what you love to do, and “wherever you go, go with all your heart.” Joshua 1:9 reminds us that we should “be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
