Fordham has been a great learning experience and a place that continues to help me change. At my school, the study and pursuit of Catholicism has motivated me in many ways. After two years at the Prep, I feel like I have undergone growth in three ways: My religious life, my community involvement, and overall personal growth.

From 9th grade to 11th grade, I have become more open and accepting of my own religion and others. While I was in Massachusetts this summer, I met someone of another religion.

He was of the Muslim faith and he told me many things about the practice. This experience acted as a key to my exploring of faith. I had started to see what made my religion so great, but I also saw things that could be done better. He helped me realize that even though we practiced different religions, we still have a basic belief of a higher being. I also came to realize new things about my religion that I didn’t appreciate beforehand.

I found out about all the changes the church went through and how it has stayed true to its beliefs in spite of these changes. This new discovery I made about another religion makes me eager to learn about other cultures and religions in the future.

Even before I came to Fordham, I always made sure that other people were happy and cared for before my own needs. Fordham prep has helped me become more connected to the people I’ve cared for.

Before I decided to come to Fordham, I didn’t have the same feeling that I have now about family. I took advantage of what they did for me in the past and decided to be more thankful for them. I also have kept stronger connections with old and new friends. I try to talk to people I haven’t spoken to recently and touch base with them about how they’re doing. This new skill is one that I plane to take with me after I graduate from the Prep.

Through Charity events and other activities, I have become more dedicated to helping out those who are less fortunate. Fordham does a good job of hosting many events like these, and they are great for the community. They host clothes drives and food drives for the less fortunate and it really shows how much our school can make a difference. I also considered doing the tutoring program, which helps out less fortunate students from different schools with their studies. During my first year at the Prep, I thought of these events as a waste of time, but now I see them as a great cause.

Fordham prep helped me realize that physical and mental growth was needed in my life in order for my to succeed.
