Never Back Down, Take Initiative Free Essay Example
Malala Yousafzai is an inspirational, and courageous young woman. She has shown courage multiple times in her life, but her bravest, and the most courageous moment was on October 9, 2012, when she was shot in the head, by a Taliban gunman; because she believed that girls have the right to an education.
Yousafzai was born 12 July 1997, in Mingora, Swat, Pakistan, to Ziauddin Yousafzai and Toor Pekai Yousafzai. She was one of three with two younger brothers, Khushal and Atal Yousafzai. When she was young, she began to write in a blog, under the name “Gul Makai,” where she would express her views on education, and life with the Taliban, who are a group of Afghanistan terrorist who takes control of many people and their lives.
The Taliban grew angry and strongly disapproved of Malala and her statements.
The Taliban then stopped all women of using television, music, from going shopping and limiting any women’s education. Malala and her father were now getting serious death threats.
On October 9, 2012, a masked gunman entered her bus and asked “Which one of you is Malala? Speak up, or I will shoot you all.” Malala was identified and he shot with a single bullet that entered her head and traveled into her shoulder. Two other girls were also injured but not as bad as her. Yousafzai survived the shooting but was then in a critical condition. Some of her organs were failing and were infected so she was flown to Birmingham, UK.
After going through many surgeries, she did recover and was able to back to Pakistan.
Unfortunately, if she went home, the Taliban would still try to kill her because of her opinion so she stayed in Birmingham, UK. Malala also continued speaking all around the world for women’s rights for education.
Since 2012 Malala has traveled around the world, spreading her message; she has changed lives and has persuaded people that everyone has the right to learn. Malala has received many national awards including the Mother Teresa award in 2012, and Nobel Peace Prize in 2014.
Malala Yousafzai has certainly changed the world that we live in, and she should be a role model for all as she shows great courage, and has always persisted in what she believes, despite personal risk.
