Abroad employment has considerably changed the set-up of the Filipino household and the entire society over the decades. The pros and the cons are in a constant see-saw as to which surpasses the other. While a higher salary and better advantages are attracting, there are security concerns and uncertainties in working abroad.

Take, for example, the present situation where Filipinos from Egypt and other nations where civil discontent is rampant needed to look for security by flying back home right away.

Still, many households are entrusted no choice however to endure the absence of a moms and dad and the issues that come with it. In this post, five females discuss how it is to be the partner of an overseas Filipino employee (OFW), and the pleasures and obstacles that their families face. There’s no Place like Home: How OFWs Stay Gotten In Touch With the Families they Left Keep close ties with your household despite the distance, and present your child to his roots.

These days, however, due to the increase of Filipino employees leaving the nation to pursue much better chances and greener pastures abroad, household togetherness is being jeopardized. How paradoxical that the reason most migrant employees are required to leave house is specifically since they like their households that they would bear the cross country and sacrifice not being with them just so they might save up for their future.

Though some are lucky to be able to bring their extended families with them, this is not a common scenario. Thus, we see less and less “complete” family get-togethers. Opportunities to gather together for Christmas, New Year, birthdays, baptisms or even regular weekends with our extended families have become so rare these days. 3.) Coping with Having Parents Abroad
JESHRIAN | JUNE 8, 2010

Better job opportunities and higher pay overseas have urged many Filipinos to work abroad and leave their families for years. In fact, way back in 2006 alone, 1.5 million Filipino workers were deployed to various parts of the globe. So, a number children these days experience the absence of fathers or mothers, who tend to come home only once in every two to three years. The situation is far from normal and is more-likely to cause a huge impact on the mental and emotional well-being of the children. The increasing amount of absentee parents becomes more alarming because without them, discipline is not enforced at home.

Fortunately, according to surveys, more Filipino children have been able to cope up with the absence of their fathers, primarily because of the immeasurable love and devotion of their mothers. Moreover, in some cases, the emotional damage is alleviated because most Filipino families are extended. This causes a diversion of attention of the children from their father, to other relatives. Meanwhile, children left behind by their mothers tend to have more emotional difficulties than those who grew up with no father. The same study reveals these children, who are left to be taken care of caregivers, develop complexity in molding their personality.

The typical teenager nowadays is savvy when it comes to gadgets, particularly cell phones, iPods, laptops, and even branded apparels. This is what becomes of them so they may compensate the absence of their parents. Although this can serve as a distraction, this is a bad practice for children for they must not be given with too much material things. Even with all the drama and the adjustment issues, one has to be aware of their parents’ sacrifice. Being a teenager, you should have the maturity to adjust to changes.

After all, even as the father or the mother is abroad, it doesn’t necessarily mean that communication is impossible. You can stay connected with them, through the latest technology. Update them always on what happens to your daily life. Make each other feel that distance is not a hindrance to let them feel loved and also, for you to feel loved. ASTRACT

1.) The paper presents a philosophical perspective on the Overseas Filipino Worker. Based on surveys and statistical review, some common negative effects of having OFW (Overseas Filipino Workers) parents are dropping out of school, taking prohibited medicine, and getting into early pregnancy. These negative effects sometimes occur when children don’t get too much attention from their parent or either guardian who is left behind. Children who don’t have their parents’ guidance can easily be influenced by peers.

This is also a reason why “abandoned” children can change their attitudes easily. But besides having negative effects, children having OFW parents also change for good especially those who are in their adolescent age. Their OFW parents serve as their inspiration to do better in their endeavor.

2.) The paper presents a philosophical perspective on the Overseas Filipino Worker. Being a worker in a foreign country has many difficulties and just one advantage if the person is married. In contrast if you are single you have more than one advantage. So when you are the head of the family you feel really sad because you miss your family and also you miss a good meal from your wife. On the other hand, if you are a single person of course you miss your family but you are able to learn a lot of new things by yourself. In addition, the only common thing between these different kinds of people is that they want or need to raise their salaries.

3.) The paper presents a philosophical perspective on the Overseas Filipino Worker. This study is made to understand the performance, specifically the academic performance, of students without the guidance of their parents or having OFW parents. In studying, parents are important to help guide, teach and lead their children because a child need supports from their loved ones and also discipline to be motivated.

It is a parent’s responsibility to take care of their children, it is hard for a student to have no one to guide them especially in their studies because as a student you still need someone to teach you and it is best to learn from your parents. Now-a-days a lot of students live without parents due to certain reasons and in some research it is said that this truly affects the child not only psychologically but also socially and academically.
